2011 AMERICAN COUNSELORS ASSOCIATION OF MISSOURI ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Half day workshop and professional training presented by David Kohlhagen at the 2011 Annual Conference of the American Counseling Association of Missouri at Capitol Plaza Hotel Jefferson City, Missouri on April 9, 2011.

Title: The Healing Power of Words and Language in the Rapid Resolution of Trauma

Program Description:

Throughout my thirty year professional career, I have continuously studied how people acquire and clear up unhealthy conditions. My current clinical practice and teaching incorporates leading edge knowledge of the neuroscience of mind/body healing, together with a theory of mind that explains how the processes that many people call hypnosis work to create possibilities in the mind that can heal both mind and body.

Force of Habit therapy was developed from an understanding of the underlying principles and processes that cause habit pattern development and change in the subconscious mind. Force of Habit defines the symptoms for which clients and patients seek treatment as habits on the part of the subconscious mind. These habits are the wellspring of both our healthy and our unhealthy functioning. It is by transforming these habits at their source in the mind, through the careful use of language and semantics, that these habits—and the symptoms to which they give rise–are permanently cleared and transformed on both the mental and physical level.

Program Goals:

A. Participants will learn about the positive and negative psychoneurobiological effects of words, language, and semantics.

B. Participants will learn about the theory and practice of Force of Habit therapy and hypnotherapy.

C. Participants will understand the psychoneurobiology of the underlying habit patterns that cause and sustain symptoms of psychic trauma and other psychological and health conditions.

D. Through demonstrations, lecture, and discussion, participants will learn how symptoms of trauma and other conditions can be rapidly cleared with the careful and purposeful use of language and semantics. Participants will learn how to have a positive effect on clients and patients in every conversation, how to avoid retraumatizing them, and how to prevent them from retraumatizing themselves.
